I have visited Binondo multiple times but I did not even notice they had Lord Stow’s near my second favorite place, Eng Bee Tin. If you are asking what is my favorite place in Chinatown? You have to wait for a bit, that post will take awhile. I think I would have missed Lord Stow’s branch here in Binondo if I had not watched a Buzzfeed video.
When I had the chance to visit Binondo again, I had to try out their famous egg tart! Let me give you a quick history lesson about this egg tart.
Lord Stow’s is famous for their egg tart which was founded by the Englishman Andrew Stow. The first small vilage shop opened in Coloane Island in Macau on September 15, 1989. 
He was inspired in making the now famous egg tart after a trip to Portugal. He had become familiar with the Portugues Pasteis de Nata – a kind of egg tart which originated in Lisbon way back 1837. He made his own version through a series of trial and error. He then introduced this creation to Asia and has been known and recognized everywhere.

His first branched out to Hong Kong in 1997. This created a cult following, generating snake-like queues of eager patrons and tourists alike. Branches now spread to Taiwan, Kapan and then the Philippines late December in 1999.

Lord Stow passed away from an asthma attack on October 25, 2006 and his daughter Audrey Stow and Eileen Stow continue to carry his standards of excellence with pride.

Tip: If in doubt, share a box of 4 with friends. I always buy a the 4 a box option and dine 1 egg tart in the shop and bring the others home with me.


Tip: Buy milktea from Wai Ying to go and head to Lord Stow’s the combo is just the bomb!
